On the 16th August 1766, Carolina Oliphant was born in Gask, Perthshire. A poet, she added her words to old folk tunes. Her parents were staunch Jacobite supporters and many of her works, including "Charlie is my Darling", reflect her family's sympathies. Scotland got a
taste of the military skill of Oliver Cromwell on the 3
September in 1650 as his Roundheads thump our boys at the battle of Dunbar. This small Scottish town has experienced many clashes in its time, situated as it is on the road to Edinburgh from England.
