Medical staff check Bali hospitals

Tuesday Oct 4 13:23 AEST

Australian military doctors and consular staff were combing hospitals in Bali to ensure no Australian victims remain unaccounted for in emergency rooms.

The federal government has airlifted badly injured Australians to Darwin and Singapore for emergency treatment, while the bodies of four Australians killed remain in Bali.

A spokeswoman for Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs in Bali said one man had checked into hospital on Monday afternoon and then checked out, while others were dropping in for check-ups for minor injuries.

"We just need to make sure we have everyone covered," she told AAP

Other Australians wanting to leave Bali were being directed to an extra Qantas flight leaving Denpasar for Sydney on Tuesday night, while another flight would leave for Perth in the afternoon.

Officials were unsure when the bodies of the Australians killed in the suicide bomb blasts at Kuta and Jimbaran would be released.

But it was unlikely to happen on Tuesday or Wednesday
