Team of champions prepares to meet champion
team
Australian
leg spinner Shane Warne and the ICC World XI players have arrived in Melbourne
to prepare for cricket's Super Series.
The series begins in Melbourne next
week with three one-day games at Docklands, before a six-day Test match at the
Sydney Cricket Ground.
World XI coach John Wright said one
of the imponderables of the series would be his team of champions playing the
champion team.
"Australia
obviously do have that settled identity and we've got to ensure that the players
appreciate that they're playing for the world team and that means playing for
the team," Wright said.
Meanwhile, Australian opening
batsman Justin Langer dismissed claims that the Super Series had no credibility.
Australia remains the number one
ranked team in both forms of cricket despite being defeated by second-ranked
Test nation England in the recent Ashes series.
Langer said Australia had been the
best side in the world for several years.
"We've earned the right to do it,"
he said. "We've hardly lost a game in four or five years.
"We lost one series - the first one
in four years. We've earned the right to play the best talent in the world." |
