N
oosa lies at the northern tip of the
beautiful Sunshine Coast about 150km north of Brisbane.
One of the
first things you notice when you arrive is the lack of tall
buildings. In fact there are no buildings higher than the trees in
this environmentally friendly town, an approach which makes a
pleasant change from many other seaside resorts.
A
short drive through Noosa township leads you to Noosa Heads and this
is where you will find Main Beach and the main tourist facilities.
Hastings
Street is the central point in town, renowned for its stylish
boutiques, restaurants, pavement bistros, and beachfront apartments.
It’s a
great place to sit and watch the world go bye or mix and mingle with
the locals or fellow travelers from around the world.
Main Beach is a safe and clean beach for
swimming or surfing and as you head towards the Noosa River you can
find more secluded stretches of beach. There are excellent fishing
spots near the river mouth and nice shady picnic areas.
To the right of Main Beach is the Noosa
National Park which has miles of well maintained tracks along the
coastline and through the bush. Some of the coastal trails lead to
beautiful sandy beaches where you can often have the place to
yourself.
There is also an abundance of local flora and fauna found in the
sanctuary including Koala bears in their natural environment. The
natural waterways and coastline around Noosa are perfect for almost
any kind of water sport, with catamarans, sea-kayaks, surfboards,
jet-skis, wakeboards, and wave runners for hire along the river
banks and shoreline.
Another attraction well worth a visit is
the nearby Fraser Island. Tours to this World Heritage site can be
arranged from Noosa and also take in the North Shore beaches.
Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand
island and the only place on the planet where rainforests grow in
sand. As well as some stunning beaches, the island has numerous
fresh water lakes and streams, with four wheel drive tracks allowing
easy access.
The island is also home to over 200
species of birds, a variety of mammals, wallabies, snakes, turtles,
possums and flying foxes.
