Queensland's sea, sun, and sand, is world famous, and the high-rise glamour of Gold Coast resorts is offset by the largely untouched Sunshine Coast Beaches, which start from the Glasshouse Mountains.

Sunshine Coast News.

One of Australia's regions of unsurpassed beauty, Queensland's Sunshine Coast is just an hours' drive north of Brisbane.

Still largely unspoiled and carefully protected, the area's sparkling beaches, shining waterways and restful mountains provide a haven for locals and visitors alike. A backdrop of green, forested mountains and rich volcanic plains slope down to the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Kilometres of white sandy beaches offer world-class surfing, and every kind of water activity under the sun. For anglers, experienced or novice, few places in Australia can match the variety of year-round fishing.

Explore the beachside resort towns of Coolum, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Caloundra, each with their own character and appeal. For fine dining, shopping and accommodation Noosa is the place.

Bordered by surfing beaches, national parks and inland waterways the sophistication of Noosa is surprisingly unspoilt.

Best Beaches : Noosa - On the Sunshine Coast

Noosa lies at the northern tip of the beautiful Sunshine Coast about 150km north of Brisbane.

One of the first things you notice when you arrive is the lack of tall buildings. In fact there are no buildings higher than the trees in this environmentally friendly town, an approach which makes a pleasant change from many other seaside resorts.

A short drive through Noosa township leads you to Noosa Heads and this is where you will find Main Beach and the main tourist facilities.

Hastings Street is the central point in town, renowned for its stylish boutiques, restaurants, pavement bistros, and beachfront apartments.

It’s a great place to sit and watch the world go bye or mix and mingle with the locals or fellow travelers from around the world.

Main Beach is a safe and clean beach for swimming or surfing and as you head towards the Noosa River you can find more secluded stretches of beach. There are excellent fishing spots near the river mouth and nice shady picnic areas.

To the right of Main Beach is the Noosa National Park which has miles of well maintained tracks along the coastline and through the bush. Some of the coastal trails lead to beautiful sandy beaches where you can often have the place to yourself.

There is also an abundance of local flora and fauna found in the sanctuary including Koala bears in their natural environment. The natural waterways and coastline around Noosa are perfect for almost any kind of water sport, with catamarans, sea-kayaks, surfboards, jet-skis, wakeboards, and wave runners for hire along the river banks and shoreline.

Another attraction well worth a visit is the nearby Fraser Island. Tours to this World Heritage site can be arranged from Noosa and also take in the North Shore beaches.

Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island and the only place on the planet where rainforests grow in sand. As well as some stunning beaches, the island has numerous fresh water lakes and streams, with four wheel drive tracks allowing easy access.

The island is also home to over 200 species of birds, a variety of mammals, wallabies, snakes, turtles, possums and flying foxes.
